J. Francis Crowley (1951 – )
Francis Crowley, of Norwood began dairy farming in 1977 on the family farm under the Taraley prefix. As sole owner-operator he developed many superior type Holsteins, some achieving All-Canadian and All-American recognition. His passion for judging dairy cattle inspired him to become an official judge with Holstein Canada.
Francis began volunteering on the Norwood Fair sheep and swine committee at the early age of 12. His commitment and devotion to volunteering on committees and agricultural organizations has continued for over 40 years.
Francis has served as a 4-H leader for field crops and dairy clubs for 35 years. He was a county president of Junior Farmers, Holstein club, Soil and Crop and 4-H Association. He is a past director and presently an associate director of the Norwood Agricultural Society. He is presently chairman of the Norwood Fair dairy cattle committee.
Awards and recognitions have been bestowed upon Francis, including the Norwood Fair Agricultural Service Award, the Peterborough County Holstein Club Breeder Recognition Award and the 4-H Ontario Volunteer Recognition Award.
Francis Crowley guided, taught and helped many area youth in the 4-H program to become outstanding individuals within their community through his own friendly demeanour and always with a smile on his face.
